Intended Students: The AHA’s Heartcode BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and others as required by their employers who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

Healthcare Providers HeartCode® BLS Online Course:

Description: BLS Skills Session is a blended learning course designed for both new and seasoned healthcare professionals. Before enrolling in the BLS Skills Session, students must have completed the online 1.75 Hour Online HeartCode® BLS Course portion of the course with the American Heart Association.

HeartCode® BLS uses the latest eSimulation technology to enable students to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings. Utilizing a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities, this course teaches BLS knowledge and skills. This method of learning provides training consistency, adaptability to different learning styles, and flexibility for the student’s and employer’s time. Students can work at their own pace applying their knowledge to real-time decision-making and skills development. Blended training also supports the need for hands-on learning of psychomotor skills. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each simulation.

Course Registration

After completing the eLearning component, students will attend a structured Instructor-led course that focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing. Where available, students may also complete the hands-on portion required for the completion of the course and issuance of a valid BLS Provider Certification Card. Students should Print out and bring proof of having completed the online portion of the course with them to the scheduled BLS Skills Sessions with an AHA instructor. During the BLS Skills Session, students will practice BLS skills and check off the manikins. The required pocket mask with a one-way valve is provided for the student to use during training and to keep following the class. The cost of the BLS Skills Session is $60.00. Certifications for BLS Providers are issued on the same day.

  • Perform high-quality CPR for an adult
  • Describe the importance of early use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Demonstrate the appropriate use of an AED
  • Provide effective ventilation using a barrier device
  • Perform high-quality CPR for a child
  • Perform high-quality CPR for an infant
  • Describe the importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation
  • Perform as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR
  • Describe the technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction for an adult or child
  • Describe the technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction for an infant
